HISTORY, OBJECTIVE AND MISSION
The Religions Without Borders was founded after September 11th, 2001. The structure is being evolved gradually. Its prime mission and objective is to build bridges using both faith approaches and conflict resolution processes as a principal track, or "platform" to improve relations between people, communities, Nations and advance the growth of:
  • Conflict prevention and management
  • Social progress, especially in education, co-existence and tolerance.
  • Multi-ethnic societies
  • Democratic governance and the rule of law
  • Economic growth and development
  • Private-public NGO sector cooperation

A team of fifteen board members and trustees lead the organization since its beginning and are from the fields of religious, humanitarian and community activist’s backgrounds. The organization is registered in the USA and exempted from Federal Income Tax as an organization described in sections 501 (C) (3).

Currently the organization is in a process of being grated a special consultative status as a NGO accredited by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Internationally the organization is registered:
  • In the Former Yugoslavia, in the Serbian Province of Kosovo by the United Nations Mission in Kosovo under regulation 1999/22, on the registration and operations of NGOs in Kosovo.

    The opening work in the ex Yugoslavia started in 2003 with the initiative to establish the Advisory Boards for Truth and Dialogue Processes in Kosovo and the activities were built around this initiative. The overall aim was to contribute to a culture of peace and co-existence by addressing what is perhaps the most critical long-term task faced this part of the World. the project has closed but fruits remained.
  • In Nepal - Religions Without Borders is registered by and fully operational in the western part of the country. Religions Without Borders jointly collaborates with the department of political science National Tribhuvan University Pokhra.
  • In Uganda, Religions Without Borders collaborates with Central Buganda University.

Special Features of the Religions Without Borders Projects

Several features make International Projects stand out among other projects that involve Agenda for Reconciliation,East Africa Program,Religious Tolerance Project,Radio Programs and KiJiji Community Program :

  • Cultivation of local human resources: In each established project-there is local Board members working with assigned International staff members.
  • Religions without Borders concepts into the work of the Boards and the working groups is in the form of training, roundtable discussions and forums. Religious without Borders USA does not give leadership to the working groups. Rather, its revolutionary approach is integrative in nature.
  • Program that cuts across ethnic lines: Advisory boards have members of different ethnic groups living side by side. No alterations are made for the sake of local political expediency.
Use of examples: The use of examples of what has happened in other places where the culture of peace has taken root are powerful tools through which board members consolidate their leadership and communicate their vision.

Main Themes

Religions without Borders focuses on the following themes during our meetings, forums, trainings and roundtable discussions:

  • Dynamics of unity in diversity. Promoting a global identity as the key to inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony where we have established our work.

  • Nature of conflict and conflict prevention. Understanding the causes of conflict, and developing the skills of peaceful conflict resolution and prevention.

  • Principles and ethics of democracy. How to establish a peaceful and prosperous society that pays high regard to fundamental human rights and is democratic in spirit.

  • Psychology of peace. Understanding the traumatic consequences of war and brutality on both victims and oppressors and assisting them to become peacemakers

RWB seeks to collaborate with other NGOs and individuals around the world.
